Reinforced concrete remains the dominant structural material for commercial construction in much of Africa because it is available locally, performs well in fire and suits a wide range of building forms. We build pad, strip and raft foundations, basements, columns, beams, suspended slabs, shear walls and lift cores, working from the structural design and coordinating closely with the architect and the services engineers. Accurate concrete work is the base for every trade that follows, so we treat it with care. We also build lift cores, retaining walls and basement structures, so the whole substructure sits with one contractor.

Reinforcement is detailed, cut, bent and fixed to the schedule and inspected before each pour, and concrete mixes are specified and tested to give the strength and durability the design requires. We use formwork systems that suit the building, including table forms and climbing forms on taller structures, and we survey each floor as it is cast so that levels and verticality are controlled. Curing, striking and propping follow a defined procedure. Cast-in services, sleeves and fixings are coordinated with the mechanical and electrical teams to avoid later cutting.
